How should we decant?
Decanting a young wine, without sediment, is easy: Just pour it into the decanter. Let it sit for about half an hour before you serve, and then you may notice an increase in the wine's aroma, and the flavor will soften and mellow. If you have time, continue tasting the wine over a period of a few hours. It may keep improving. Benefits of decanting may be obtained for white wine, as well as red. Also, as with stemware, ensure your decanter is spotless and free from any household aromas. Rinse it with mineral water to remove any leftover chlorine odor. Avoid cleaning your decanter with detergent, because the shape of a decanter could make it difficult to remove the soapy residue. Instead, use a mixture of crushed ice and coarse salt, which can remove residual wine without leaving an aroma of their own. It’s a good idea to clean all crystal glassware with a foam brush made for this purpose.
